Pictured here – SINGER Heavy Duty 4432 Sewing Machine

This SINGER Heavy Duty 4432 sewing machine is a great workhorse with a heavy-duty metal interior frame, extra-high sewing speed, stainless steel bedplate, and powerful motor to make sewing through various heavyweight fabrics an easy task to accomplish with this machine.

It has a built-in needle threader to automatically thread the sewing needle for you. It also has a top drop-in bobbin to make it easier for you to setup the bobbin. Access and threading the bobbin thread is more straightforward with a drop in bobbin. It also comes with features such as Snap-on presser feet, onboard storage, built-in 1-step buttonhole, flexible presser foot pressure control, three needle positions, a reverse lever, adjustable stitch length, and drop feed for the button. This is a mechanical sewing machine, with knobs, dials, and switches used to control sewing settings. Old school sewers might prefer this type of machine as they are more familiar with it. Mechanical sewing machines also allow a finer degree of control over your stitch settings.

This sewing machine provides the sewer with greater piercing power and speeds up to 1,100 stitches per minute due to its strong motor. For comparison, standard sewing machines usually sew in the 600 to 800 stitches per minute range. Higher speeds like this allow you to sew bigger projects quickly. The motor in the Singer 4432 is 60% stronger than your average sewing machine motor. This high sewing speed is closer to a professional speed sewing machine than a standard speed. This means you can have faster results sewing your projects.

The stronger motor also gives this machine added piercing power for sewing thick and heavy weight materials like denim, canvas, and leather. This machine’s powerful motor makes sewing most any material a breeze. When you are sewing heavier materials (and any material really) always make sure that you are using a sharp needle that is appropriate for the job. Dull or improper needles can damage your sewing machine, your project, or you when the needle breaks. Also to be sure to use appropriate thread for your project. Too thick or thin thread can damage your project or leave it susceptible to thread breakage. The heavy-duty frame gives rigid support for added balance and long-lasting durability. The heavy duty metal frame also adds to the machine’s weight, helping to keep it in place when you sew at high speeds. With it’s ability to do free arm sewing, it can easily access difficult-to-reach-areas like sleeve cuffs, collars, pant hems, and kids clothes.

It can be used to sew a wide range of fabrics (from lightweight sheers to canvas) as it has an adjustable presser foot pressure just above the needle area. Speaking of presser feet, this machine also has an extra high presser foot lift. This makes it perfect for sewing thick materials like faux fur. You can also adjust the height of the feed teeth, leaving them up or dropping them as needed. This allows you to work with thicker fabrics, or to do free motion sewing on this sewing machine. This machine has an adjustable stitch width of up to 6mm for creating bolder and attractive decorative stitches. The Singer 4432 heavy duty sewing machine also has three different needle positions – left, right, and center. It is easy to change the needle position for individual projects, such as inserting zippers, applying piping, and edge stitching.

Singer sewing machines are well known for their durability. Singer is one of the first sewing machines made, and you can tell they have perfected their craft over the years. Singer is one of the top brands for making sewing machines. The Singer 4432 sewing machine is a quality sewing machine that should last you quite a while. This machine also comes with a 25 year limited warranty “just in case” there is an issue with the machine in the future. If you do need to use the warranty, be sure to reach out to Singer first to make sure you are covered and to find a local repair shop that Singer has certified to repair their machines. This warranty includes components like the motor, light assembly, switches, speed control, wiring, and other electronic components. It does not include belts, light bulbs, attachments, and sewing machine adjustments. Improper use of this sewing machine would void this warranty, leaving you to pay for costly repairs. So be sure to read the instructions and the manual prior to using this sewing machine.

With all of these convenient features and technical details, the Singer Heavy Duty 4432 sewing machine is still relatively user-friendly. It is an excellent option for advanced sewers or anyone who is stepping into the world of sewing. This simple to use Singer sewing machine has all the essential and high-level features that one might need. You can use it for everyday sewing tasks or to create unique projects.

To use the needle threader, you first thread the sewing machine itself down to the needle part. To thread the needle, you first pull down and hold the automatic needle threader. Wrap your thread around the threader’s hook, right to left. Hold the thread to the left and behind the needle. Let the automatic needle threader go, and your needle should have a loop sticking through it. Pull the loop to finish threading your sewing machine. With a bit of practice, these steps become one easy step that can quickly get your thread through the eye of the needle.

Here’s a great video by Singer detailing how to thread this machine.

Are Singer sewing machines good?

Singer is one of the top brands for making sewing machines. They make quality sewing machines that last. Singer machines are durable and last a long time if you take care of them. Singer sewing machines can be a bit basic compared to other brands of sewing machines, but with Singer you know you are getting a quality sewing machine. Singer sewing machines also come with a 25 year limited warranty “just in case” that protects you.

Does this machine have an adjustable speed button?

No, this machine does not have an adjustable speed button and has no way to set the max sew rate. The speed of this machine is solely controlled by the sewing pedal. The harder you press on the foot pedal, the faster the machine goes up to a max of 1,100 stitches per minute. Go slowly when you first purchase this machine as the sewing speed is quite a bit faster than most sewing machines. It can easily run away with you if you apply too much pressure on the pedal. This machine does not have adjustable presser foot pressure control, so you will have to adjust to the machine instead of having the machine adjusted to you.

What feet come with the Singer 4432?

The Singer 4432 heavy duty sewing machine comes wiht four different presser feet. These include:

  • All purpose foot
  • Zipper foot
  • Buttonhole foot
  • Button sewing foot

The Singer 4432 is also compatible with a wide range of other press on / low shank sewing machine feet. This means if you need a different sewing foot for this machine you can buy it separately. Walking feet, pleating feet, and rolled hem feet are all available to purchase separately.

Is the Singer 4432 portable?

The Singer 4432 heavy duty sewing machine is portable, but is on the heavy side at 14.6 pounds. The heavy duty metal frame on this machine keeps it in place when sewing thick materials at high speeds, but also increases the weight of the machine. It has a carry handle included to make it easier to transfer from one location to another. This machine is great for attending sewing classes or club meetings but you might want a rolling carry case for this machine due to the weight.

Can you embroider with the Singer 4432?

The Singer heavy duty 4432 sewing machine is not a dedicated embroidery machine. It will not automatically sew beautiful embroidered designs into your projects. For a dedicated embroidery machine, check out our Brother PE800 review. That said, you can do beautiful free motion embroidery with the Singer 4432. Free motion embroidery is where you drop the feed dog teeth completely and move the fabric through the machine by hand. While you can do this with an all purpose foot, you’ll have more success using a darning / embroidery foot. You can find one here. With free motion embroidery you can make beautiful designs on your project using the Singer 4432.

Does this heavy duty sewing machine have a needle threader?

Yes, the 4432 Singer heavy duty sewing machine comes with an automatic needle threader. This makes it super simple to thread the needle. No more squinting and eye strain while you try to get the thread into the needle.

How hard is it to thread the Singer 4432?

This heavy duty Singer sewing machine is really easy to thread. The thread path is printed and numbered on the machine so it is easy to remember where the thread goes. This machine also comes with an automatic needle threader, meaning you do not have to try to thread the needle by hand. Another thing that makes this machine super easy to thread is the drop in bobbin. Horizontal bobbins can fall out if they aren’t lined up just right – with the drop in top bobbin you don’t have to worry about it, just plop the bobbin in.

Where is the manual for this sewing machine?

You can find the Singer heavy duty 4432 manual here.

Does the Singer 4432 have a box feed or arc feed?

The Singer 4432 heavy duty has a box feed system.

The feed system on a sewing machine refers to the feed dogs. Feed dogs are the parts below the needle that are directly responsible for moving the fabric through the sewing machine. Feed dogs can be metal or plastic. They rise up and down as the machine sews to “grip” the fabric.

The question here, if the machine has a box or arc feed refers to how the feed dogs travel. On most sewing machines the feed dogs travel in an oval pattern. They rise up and down in a oval pattern, with the longer part on top. At the top of the oval they move the fabric forward. When the feed dogs are down, if you are applying pressure to move the fabric forward you can cause the machine to skip stitches, as there is no pressure from the feed dogs to hold the fabric in place.

The box feed system on the Singer 4432 helps to prevent this accidental movement of the fabric. With a box feed system, the feed dogs are in contact with the fabric longer. Instead of travelling in an oval, the feed dogs travel in a rectangle. The longer side of the rectangle is on top, against the fabric. So with a box feed system you have a little bit more time with the feed dogs against the fabric.

Reviews of the box feed system are mixed. Some people swear that it is amazing, other people do not see a difference. Personally, having a box feed isn’t a deal breaker to us when choosing a new sewing machine.

Can you use a walking foot with the Singer 4432?

Yes! You can use a walking foot with the Singer 4432.

A walking foot is a specialized sewing machine foot that helps to “walk” fabric through without distorting the fabric. If you have ever sewn satin or knits then you know how easily the fabric can distort and shift on you when you try to sew it. A walking foot prevents this. It basically acts as a second set of feed dog teeth for the upper layer of fabric. This helps keep your fabric inline as you sew.

Walking feet are great for quilting since they help to keep all of the layers lined up as you sew. Walking feet are also amazing when used with sewing knits that can stretch easily. Sewing satin and other slippery materials is a breeze with a walking foot, often requiring less pins!

You can find a walking foot for the Singer 4432 here.

Does the Singer 4432 have a light?

Yes, the Singer 4432 has a 15 watt light bulb.

Personally, I always find the light bulbs on sewing machines to be a bit lacking. I like to add the LED light strips to my sewing machines to light up the workspace nice and bright. When they’re super cheap like this one and so easy to install, it’s hard to say no to. LED light strips like this make it super easy to see what I’m doing, no matter what I’m working on.

Is the Singer 4432 a mechanical sewing machine?

The Singer heavy duty line of sewing machines are all mechanical machines. These machines have their settings controlled manually via knobs and dials on the sewing machine. On a mechanical machine the stitch length, width, stitch selection, stitch tension, and more are all controlled by setting a dial. This is different from a computerized sewing machine where the settings are stored in the machine’s computer, and adjusted by buttons on the machine.

Can you do free arm sewing with the Singer 4432 heavy-duty sewing machine?

Yes! The Singer 4432 heavy-duty sewing machine is able to do free-arm sewing. Free arm sewing is when you can open up the sewing bed of a sewing machine allowing you to wrap your fabric around it. This is really useful for sewing trouser hems and sleeve cuffs. It allows for easy access to tight spaces where you need to sew. Difficult-to-reach areas like inside dolls, sleeve heads, and neck lines are super easy to sew with free arm sewing.

What type of bedplate does the Singer 4432 have?

The Singer 4432 has a stainless steel bedplate. This is the plate that the needle passes through to pull up the bobbin thread. Having a stainless steel bed plate means that if your needle skips and strikes the bedplate then it is less likely to damage the bedplate. Regardless, if this happens you should replace your needle since it will surely be dulled and bent.

Does the Singer 4432 have a LCD screen?

No, the Singer 4432 does not have a LCD screen. This is a mechanical sewing machine where stitch selections and settings are made by adjusting dials. This kind of machine does not have a LCD screen on it, that would be found on a computerized sewing machine.

What makes the Singer 4432 a heavy duty sewing machine?

The Singer heavy-duty sewing machines have multiple features that make them more heavy duty than your standard sewing machine. To start, these machines have a stronger motor than your average sewing machine. The Singer 4432’s motor is 60% stronger than your typical sewing machine. This extra power allows this machine to sew through heavy fabrics with ease. The Singer 4432 also has a sturdy metal frame that adds more durability to the machine. This is another great feature that is often only found on an industrial machine. These features combine to make this easily one of the best sewing machine to use on thick and heavy fabrics. This is a great machine for home sewing projects or even light commercial work.
