Embroidery Machines FAQ

What is the best embroidery machine for beginners?

The best embroidery machines for beginners will probably be one of the Brother embroidery machines. If you do not already have a sewing machine, you should look at one of the “SE” Brother embroidery machines. If you already have a sewing machine, a “PE” embroidery machine would be a better choice. Brother embroidery machines are super user friendly. New users have reported being able to watch the startup videos and begin embroidering their own, beautiful designs within 30 minutes.

Do embroidery machines also sew?

Some embroidery machines can also sew, and some embroidery machines are dedicated, embroidery only machines. When buying an embroidery machine, if being able to sew is important to you then you should verify that the machine can also sew. In this article, the Brother “SE” sewing machines are capable of creating beautiful machine embroidery and are also fully functioning sewing machines. The Janome Memory Craft 14000 and 9850 can both create embroidery and sew.

What is the best embroidery machine for home use?

The best embroidery machine for home use will again probably be a Brother embroidery machine. The Janome embroidery machines are amazing, but are overkill for most home embroiders. If you are just occasionally embroidering projects for yourself then a Brother embroidery machine is probably perfect for your needs. If you already have a dedicated sewing machine, or will not need to sew, a Brother “PE” embroidery machine would be a good choice. If you would like to be able to sew as well as embroider with your machine, a Brother “SE” would be a good choice.

If you are planning on doing embroidery for home for yourself and are doing more than the occasional project, you should look at the Janome embroidery machines. These machines are generally more expensive than the Brother machines. They also have a lot more features and embroider much faster than the Brother machines.

If you intend to embroider large projects you really should consider a Janome embroidery machine. The first time you find yourself having to reposition your fabric in the hoop so that you can embroider a larger project you will regret not buying a machine that can just handle larger projects on it’s own.

Can you make money with an embroidery machine?

Yes! you can make money with an embroidery machine. There are many different embroidery business ideas out there, perfect for a home embroidery business. You could start out embroidering company logos onto shirts and hats. You can create custom embroidery on clothes for people. You can even just sell the embroidery designs you create! There are tons of different ways to make money with an embroidery machine.

How difficult is embroidery?

The difficulty of machine embroidery depends on your embroidery machine. With the Brother embroidery machines, users new to machine embroidery report that they are able to get up and going, creating their own beautiful embroidery designs, within 30 minutes of watching the introductory video.

More complex embroidery machines or embroidery projects would take more time and effort to learn and setup. The Janome MB-4S for instance is basically a commercial embroidery machine. These can take significantly longer to setup and learn how to use effectively.

What is multi-needle embroidery?

The Janome MB-4s above is a multi needle embroidery machine. Multi-needle embroidery machines are embroidery machines that have more than one needle. Each needle is in it’s own sewing head. Having multiple needles to embroider with doesn’t mean that your machine is actually *using* all of these needles at once. However, it does allow you to setup the machine to use multiple different thread colors. This makes it so that when the machine needs to use another color for your design, it can just switch to using a different needle and sewing head. This ends up saving quite a bit of time when embroidering a design. You do not have to sit around watching the machine so you can change out thread colors.

In Summary

These are the best non-industrial grade embroidery machines available. These machines would be great choices in for your home business. They would be great for embroidering shirts or hats with your logo. They would also be great for embroidering beautiful designs onto projects for you to sell in a shop. With these great embroidery machines you can customize items to be just what you need.
